Project

Project info

Due to the decreasing number of veterinary clinics and staff shortages, time pressure is a major factor. Inpatient admissions to veterinary clinics lack digitalization, with parameter documentation (e.g., feed intake) mostly analog and manually transferred to digital systems. This leads to insufficient data evaluation due to time constraints. Handoffs occur verbally without a standardized process. We have developed a digital tool for documentation, handover, and monitoring (heart rate, respiratory rate, seizures) to streamline ward work and allow more time for animal care. The system targets small animals like dogs and cats and is designed for veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

Project info

Modo is a system comprising a ward application, a whiteboard display, and a monitoring gadget. The ward application digitizes parameter recording for small animal patients, evaluates their condition, and provides an overview of all animals. It also digitizes the handover process using the SBAR scheme for structured information transfer. The whiteboard display shows a large overview of current patients and important parameters. The monitoring gadget, attached to the cage via clamp and bayonet lock, tracks heart and respiratory rates and seizures using FMCW radar and an AI camera, without direct contact with the animal. Alerts are triggered in the application and on the gadget if parameters worsen.
